Soon Return of Christ

We’ve had a number of babies born in our church in recent days. Some arrived on their anticipated due dates others took a while longer. Toward the final days of these pregnancies nervous husbands made several ‘false alarm’ trips to the hospital. Why? They saw the signs of imminent birth, signs that were stronger signs than those previous. They thought perhaps this time… perhaps this time will be the birth.

Whether or not a time was the one in which the mother gave birth, several things were always true of each trip: 1. There was a child in that womb soon to be born. 2. The signs of its approaching birth were present, more intense, more urgent. 3. There would most certainly be a birth at some time. 4. Those awaiting the birth longed for it. 5. The birth would occur whether or not anyone believed in it.

From the moment of His Ascension the promise of Christ’s return was given,

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:10-11).

Hadn’t Jesus warned them, “…keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come… be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.” (Matt. 24:42,44).

The Apostle John writes, “…continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at his coming.” (1 John 2:28). “Look, He is coming with the clouds…” (Rev. 1:7, see also Dan. 7:13).

On Patmos Jesus reveals Himself to John saying, “’I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘Who is, and Who was, and Who is to come, the Almighty.’” (Rev. 1:8).

Whether or not today is the day of His return several things are true of it: 1. Christ is awaiting the father’s command to come. 2. The signs of His soon return are currently present, more intense, more urgent. 3. He will most certainly return at some time. 4. Those awaiting His return long for it. 5. His return is certain whether or not anyone believes in it.

Heed what He says, I am coming soon….” “Look, I am coming soon!…” “Yes, I am coming soon.” (Rev. 3:11, 22:12, 20).

“…Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” (Rev. 22:20).
