I got stuck in a silly word form loop today as I sat down to write this Monday blog. Pastor Steve’s message this past Sunday “Walking in the Spirit” contained a few scriptures that got me started, then one thing just led to another — in the end I had sketched a history of humanity…
It all began with an unformed lump of clay… “I too have been formed out of the clay.” (Job 33:6, NASB) “…the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Gen. 2:7) But we chose poorly; sin deformed the Image of God in which we were created. We do all sorts of things hoping to fill that gap.
Paul described his heart-ache for spiritual maturity of the believers in Galatia as being “in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you…” (Gal. 519).
unformed – not formed; without definite shape or structure.
formed – having structure; capable of growth and development; organized.
deformed – unnatural or distorted in form; misshapen; disfigured.
Paul openly admits he “was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;” (1 Tim.1:13). But once Paul was informed of the gospel, he became reformed in character.
informed – having or showing knowledge of a particular subject or situation.
reformed – corrected; amended; restored to purity or excellence; amended in character and life.
We try remakes and resolutions in attempts to become “self-made” men and women, but these efforts fail miserably, leaving us merely malformed,
malformed – badly or imperfectly formed, misshapen.
Yet as God had bigger plans for Paul, He has bigger plans for you and I… if we, this time, choose rightly. “For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” (Rom. 8:29) “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Rom. 12:2)
conformed – complying with rules, standards, or laws; following socially acceptable convention; following the crowd…
transformed – make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character.
You can make that choice today! I will not guarantee you tomorrow. Now is always the time to decide for eternity. Be not misinformed. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
Only then can we begin our first steps. Only then can we begin “walking in the Spirit.”
In what form are you?
More tomorrow…
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
