Wednesday, 1/2/19 – Pressing on…

Monday we pondered our own ‘stained hands,’ the jellied hands of Charlie Brown, the weaknesses of the esteemed of this century and those of the 1st century A.D. Yesterday we looked at the importance of pondering the wondrous grace of God in the gift of Christ. His holy hands became stained also, but not with jelly, not with guilt of any shortcoming, but with the blood of His human body.

As Pastor Steve rightly commented on Sunday, our journeys haven’t ended. We’re are still journeying to Jesus, but no longer as a babe in manger, rather, as a blinding King in Eternity! This is our goal! This is why I often urge “Press on…”

Let’s remember this in our resolution making. In light of the Kingdom awaiting us and the transformations to happen to us, setting a resolution in this world to accomplish something temporal seems such an insignificance.

Peter writes of this. Let his words inspire you to set resolutions of eternal worth and to press on with eternal focus in 2019…

… the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him…  grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. (2 Pet. 3:10-14, 18)
